Brush Creek Mid-Shed Project Home

Brush Creek, which runs through Platte County from the Kansas City International Airport to the Missouri River, is the focus of an innovative project to reduce impacts from development.

The Platte Land Trust recognized that the Brush Creek Watershed was on the verge of rapid land development, most likely at the expense of the water quality of the stream.   A four-year project was developed through Section 319 of the Clean Water Act that focuses on protecting Brush Creek from the impacts of development within the watershed.

Due to the expected rapid development within the Interstate 435 corridor, the middle portion of the watershed (mid-shed) between Highway 152 and Highway 45 is the primary focus for the Project.

The Brush Creek Watershed is located in southern Platte County, and contains portions of the cities of Parkville and Kansas City along with unincorporated sections of the county.  In the Platte County Watersheds Map below, the Brush Creek Watershed is outlined.  The mid-shed is outlined in the adjacent aerial photograph.
